Our nation and our state are at a crossroads today. We can choose to continue with the failed economic, international and social policies of those in power, or we can choose to follow a more reasonable common sense and compassionate path. I believe that we can have a government that works for the people of this great state that is both fiscally responsible and progressive. But I can not do this alone. I need your support as we build a grass roots campaign to take back control of our lives from those who would allow the failed policies of the past to continue. It is not a secret that the Republican party has been working for over a decade to make sure that our government of the people, by the people and for the people does not function. Their goal is to bankrupt the government and those programs that so many rely on for our education, health care and retirement needs. They prefer that every citizen of this nation fend for themselves instead of caring for our neighbors. In other words, they put their faith in the "Law of the Jungle" instead of the "Golden Rule". They plan to make sure that the middle class is no longer an economic or political force that can stop them from pillaging our pockets. We must work together and rebuild the Democratic party as a credible alternative so that we can mount a campaign to save our Democracy from this Republican stream roller that is trying to flatten the middle class. Missourians don't ask for much from their government — whether a person is an electrician, real estate agent, carpenter, shop owner, homemaker, student or a professor — our needs are simple.

• We need the ability to compete fairly in what is becoming an international job market.
• We need a fair wage or a decent profit for our efforts.
• We need to be able to educate ourselves and our children so we may better compete in the world economy.
• We need to be able to keep ourselves and our children healthy.
• We need to be able to save for our retirement and for emergencies.
• We need a safe place to live and grow.
• We need to be free to live our lives without excessive interference from the government and special interests.
• We need to have a government that is responsive to our needs — in short, the people of Missouri's 12th House District want to be heard by their government; a government willing to take action.
